The BNP are offering a “once in a lifetime opportunity” to buy a lifelong membership to the party. You’d have thought that the burning desire to reclaim your shores from a dark-skinned invading force, fighting for the Aryan cause and protecting your kids from the evils of homosexuality would be enough to sign on the dotted line – but no!
Nationalism now comes in a fasci-package! You’ll not only pledge your allegiance to the white brotherhood, but you’ll also add sparkle to your seig-heil salute with a brand new watch! Further still, next to pictures of your kids, parents and Goebbels on the mantlepiece, a signed picture of THE Nick Griffin can take its pride of place. Other goodies include a pin-badge, free subscription to a couple of BNP publications, and a “prestigious LIFE MEMBER certificate parchment scroll for framing”!
Oh, and I forgot to mention the “highly desirable” gold-coloured lifetime membership card! Because extreme political ideology is so much more than just belief – it’s a £395 stamp of approval, too:
Life Membership is the ultimate way to show your commitment and dedication to the cause of British Nationalism for life, not just for one year! It is the ultimate statement of loyalty and patriotism!
Sounds like a glorified welcome pack for fascist scouts. Plus the advert is so tacky it looks like one you’d find in the middle of the News of the World for a special edition coin from the Royal Mint, commemorating Princess Diana or something.
Hello,
This is as interesting as it is amusing. When parties like this start self funding in this sort of way it can be a sign of weakness but also ideological independence. We already know that they are either in financial trouble or they do not declare donations properly, unless the have 10′s of thousands of donors. So this looks like a way to try and boost short term capital, Mosley offered similar deals (free blackshirts for long term deals etc)for the BUF. This was their most successfull period because they were not financially dependent on first the Italian fascists and later to a lesser extent the Nazi’s.
I fear something similar may occur with the BNP who have previously sought funding from european right wing groups, and earnt money from speaking tours of extreme right wing America. If they achieve enough capital to prop up Griffins campaign in Thurrock for example they will have financial and hence ideological independence, which no doubt they will use to spread their ideas of hatred and fear.
That’s certainly an interesting point.
Although, you’ve got to think that whoever does choose to sponsor the BNP is pretty clear on the ideological front anyway. I can’t imagine pressure being applied to make the BNP softer.
I think the only reason the BNP has to compromise its ideology is to win public favour – but this in itself is just a facade, which would soon drop should they ever come to power.
That we can agree on. But within fascism as within all extreme ideals there are great splits. One need only look at the difference in domestic policy of Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy and Japan during the war period to see how widely different policies fascists can support.
When the right wing are split between different parties, and behind different policies aside from immigration it ensures that they cannot become a wider force. With ideological independence these splits become less, that is why I fear it slightly.
But anyway we are agreed that we don’t like them and that is better than half the blogs I read, so thank you, and good post.
Very true.
Thanks for your comment!
