Gordon Brown, when speaking to the BBC yesterday, said of the Afghanistan War:
Three quarters of the terror-plots that hit Britain come from the mountain areas of Afghanistan and Pakistan…it is to make Britain safe.
Well, it may be the case that 3/4 of anti-uk terror plots now derive from this area, but at what point did this become the norm? The BBC journalist should have questioned Brown on this point, asking how many anti-uk terror plots came from this area before we attacked? The idea that it’s our invasion of Afghanistan that’s provoking terrorist activity in the region should have been presented to him. They should have pushed Brown on how many anti-uk terror plots came from Afghanistan and Pakistan pre-2001.
I’ve tried to do a bit of research to see if I could find out, but to no avail. I’ve FOI’d the Home Office to see how many foiled terror plots in the UK derived from those areas before 2001 and after 2001 so we can make a comparison. Let’s hope I can get that info.
